0357 History of the Unit

The 357th Military Police Company (Guard) was constituted and organized to guard enemy prisoners of war and civilian internees.

The unit’s history began as the 139th MP Company, which was constituted on 13 April 1944 and subsequently activated on 1 June 1944 in Aversa, Italy. The unit participated in the Rome-Arno Campaign in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater and was inactivated on 15 November 1945 in Cecian, Italy after World War II ended.

On 31 July 1947, the 139th MP Co. was re-designated as the 357th Military Police Company and assigned to the United Sates Army Reserves, Fifth U.S. Army. The 357th MP Company was activated on 29 August 1947 in East Lansing, Michigan and inactivated on 4 December 1950 at the same location. Then on 31 January 1963, the 357th MP Co. was again activated at 2901 Webber Street, Saginaw, MI. On 1 October 1984, the 357th MP Co. was relieved from assignment to Fifth U.S. Army and assigned to Fourth U.S. Army.

On 1 June 1989, the 357th MP Company moved to the Armed Forces Reserve Center at 3500 Douglas Street, Saginaw, Michigan. Finally, on 1 October 1990, the 357th Military Police Company was inactivated at Saginaw, Michigan.

Since 1963, the company has trained at: Camp Perry, Ohio; Fort Chaffee, Arkansas; Fort McClellan, Alabama; Fort McCoy, Wisconsin; Fort Pickett, Virginia; Camp Grayling, Michigan; and Camp Castle, Honduras, Central America as garrison military police, combat support, and in enemy prisoner of war/civilian internee operations.

In 1980 and 1981, the unit assisted in site support, riot control, and other MP duties while working at the Cuban Resettlement Programs at Fort Chaffee. In 1989, the 357th MP Co. participated in "Fuertes Caminos '89", Honduras Central America. The unit provided law and order, area security, and battlefield circulation control operations in support of the Ohio Army National Guard (Task Force 16). The mission of Task Force 16 was to continue to build a major road across Honduras and provide humanitarian support as possible.

The company motto is: "357 Magnum Force".
